This recipe is a great alternative to the standard cranberry sauce! And it’s quick enough to make to replace the canned variety.
Maple-Apple Cranberry Sauce
Makes about 3 cups
Servings 0
Ingredients
- 12 ounces fresh cranberries, washed
- 1 sweet apple, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch chunks
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1/3 cup maple syrup to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
Instructions
- Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries begin to burst, the apple pieces are tender, and the sauce thickens, about 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and add juice of 1/2 lemon (or more to taste); let cool. The sauce will thicken as it cools. Taste and add more maple syrup or lemon juice, if desired.
- Cover and store in the refrigerator.
